These are just a few of the effects of putting yourself behind a camera and honing the art of self-portraiture.
Our workshops support you with the artistic skills of posing yourself (or others), and composing powerful, fine art self-portraits. You will spend a week in a location surrounded by beautiful nature. We will provide you accommodation, locations, and direct guidance and practice with storytelling, creating contrast, using movement and intentionality, analysing light, shapes, and emphasizing interaction and connection.

Madeira, Portugal - November
This workshop takes place in one of the most mystical places on Earth at the foggiest time of year. We will be a small group exploring misty fairytale forests and cloudy peaks, where you will receive individual attention and support with posing, composition and visual storytelling in self-portraiture. Karl and I have lived in Madeira for several months over the past couple of years and know where the magic is to be found. All levels of expertise are welcome!
- Location: Madeira, Portugal

- Cost: €1350 (+650 for partner option)
- Group Size: 5, plus potential partners, capped at 8 or 9
- Instructors: Wendy and Karl Hansen; with half-time guest instructor Vanessa Bussoletti (@thesongoftheswan)
- Included: 7 nights of accommodation, coaching and instruction on site
- Not included: flights, transportation, meals
- Accommodation: an entire house surrounded by mountain views, with 3 bathrooms, pool table, and outdoor pool. Please indicate when applying whether you'd like to bring a roommate (spouse, photographer, model, friend etc) - the cost for your guest is €650. Each solo participant or couple will have their own private bedroom.
- Activity level: moderate. Expect walks with gentle to moderate incline, and to be on your feet for several hours at a time while shooting.
Itinerary:
- Day 1 - check in, dinner
- Day 2-7 - self-portraits at Fanal Forest, Pico do Arieiro, Seixal beach. Depending on weather conditions and group interest, we may also go to Ponta do Rosto, Porto Moniz natural pools, Ponta do Pargo, Pico Ruivo, and other forests and valleys. We will be analysing the weather and maximizing our shoot conditions by choosing locations each day that will have the best fog and light.
- Day 8 morning: goodbyes and check out
Payment:
- Within 7 days of email confirmation of the acceptance of your application, a €100 deposit is due by Paypal, Wise, or bank transfer
- Half of the balance is due 6 months prior to the workshop, on May 9, 2024 (for A) or May 17, 2024 (for B)
- The remaining balance is due 1 month prior to the workshop, on October 9, 2024 (for A) or October 17, 2024 (for B)
